Thank you for the link to their site. It’s pretty interesting but that torque/power sheet doesn’t really show monumental gains. I guess every little bit counts right?

Got it.

Once I found what you found on MM I was able to look more closely at the Maniflow website.  They have carefully chosen their words ("type of vortex" and similar wording).

You can read more about what Maniflow have done and their claims in the link below.

Hi Doug, this is what is written on the mini mania website and something similar is also on 7ent.com
“Maniflow improved on their LCB design by enlarging and shaping the middle pipe which creates a type of vortex, simulating a pulsing effect similar to the outside two pipes, thus producing an improved BHP, torque and power curve. In conjunction with top Mini racing engineers, this design has won all the major Mini Championships.“
doesn’t say anything at all about vortex scavenging, just creates a type of vortex to simulate pulse effect.

That’s what I was wondering. Say anything to get your money. I don’t know much about the vortex pulse stuff at all so have no way or knowing if it’s real or not.

I dunno about "vortex scavenging" (probably marketing baloney) but a properly tuned Mini exhaust does its own form of scavenging. When an exhaust pulse reaches the end of the tailpipe (or somewhere), it induces a negative pressure pulse that helps draw exhaust. I have seen this in action on my Mini: at idle, exhaust pulses push a suspended paper towel away from the tailpipe tip and the resulting negative pulse sucks it back in, to the point the paper towel shreds.
Specs: 1275 high compression engine, Freeflow header, 1.75 Stainless steel RC40 exhaust system with single muffler.

Have a browse over this:

I’ll probably end up getting one as I need a header anyways. Thanks for all the input. I’ll probably reach out to Maniflow first and see what they have to say.

You probably won't feel an immediate difference in the seat of your pants but every little bit helps.  I installed one on my car combined with the RCM exhaust and like it.  I think its worth the additional money.

"..Oh, and as a warning I wouldn't go singing praises of Maniflow for their super-duper high quality mumbo-jumbo just because of their name. In 30 years I've had 2 ..and both were fine.  What did they say when you complained?

Cheers, Ian

Thanks for your input, I’d hate to spend the money and get something that doesn’t fit.

I have one. It works. I also have the non stage2 and I have cooper freeflow. I have never compared back to back to back on the same engine with dyno or anything.

I did put the stage2 on my +.060 performance build with 286ish cam because I didn't want to go for the big ol' 2" exhaust.

I can tell you that the lcb manifolds are a PITA to get/keep sealed if you are someone who takes his engine in and out a lot. That Y piece sucks and the band clamp joints always seem to leak in time, usually from engine moving different than the exhaust is moving.

The cooper freeflow only has 1 joint/clamp where the lcb types have 3.

Oh, and as a warning I wouldn't go singing praises of Maniflow for their super-duper high quality mumbo-jumbo just because of their name. I have a steel dual carb hif manifold of theirs that has mounting faces so out of wack from one another I've never put it on and have had it probably 10 years. Welds look like they came from the Colgate factory. Not inexpensive, either.

You could phone or message Manifold and ask them what they would recommend for your engine spec.  Maybe the (I think its called) Cooper Freeflow would be a better match for a modest engine spec...

Not really asking if Maniflow is a good company, more interested in if the state 2 is extreme for what I’m working with.

All I can say it that mine fitted nicely, is well made and Maniflow has a long reputation of knowing what they are doing... My previous Maniflow lasted 20 years but was beaten to death on the 1/2 km of special stage otherwise known as my driveway.

Your main risk is whether the cheaper item will fit ..or how much work you have to do to make it so..

Based on Maniflow's experience and reputation (they grew out of the original Downton) you will get what you pay for...

Cheers, Ian

Hey all you mini maniacs. I have a question about the stage 2 LCB header. My mini needs a new exhaust manifold as the old cast unit on there is in bad shape and riddled with holes.
The car has a 1275cc .040 over (is that a 1310cc?), 12G940 11 bolt head, aluminum intake with a Weber 32/36, oil cooler, 1.75” single box exhaust front to back. I was told it only has around 400 miles on the engine rebuild and I have no reason to doubt that. It’s very clean inside with no carbon on the pistons. I have no idea about the cam, gears, clutch.

I’m leaning towards getting the stage 2 LCB from Maniflow, it’s the one with the modified center branch for some sort of vortex pulse magic. It’s not a huge amount of money extra and I feel like extra exhaust flow would be better anyways. The description sounds good but we all know that performance part descriptions are for loosening purse strings. Based on what my engine has I figure I wouldn’t be wasting my money. Anyone have experience with this LCB? I’d love to hear some first hand experience. Would I just be pissing my money away?
