The first time I went to Florida someone remarked that "there goes a snow bird".... and laughed when I starting looking up at the trees...

Afraid we were at 33.33c (92f) today- another record and the garage faces west so it really concentrates that afternoon heat. Best guess is that the Canadians left early this year due to the virus stuff and they took the cool air with them. I am thinking that they are all little ice packs like for the cooler except bigger. They come in October and things cool off; when they leave in the spring things warm up. Just need to clone a few million to solve global warming.    Will revisit garage in October when they return.

That sounds nice and warm. My garage is currently 10 -15 deg C with both doors open, on a good day. There is still probably 1-2 feet of frost under the concrete slab.

So do have twin shoes up front.  I am going to pass on this project for the moment.  Garage has become too hot for any big projects- Temp has been running 5-10 degrees above normal this month. Record highs regularly. Usually I can work out there until mid-may but this year it looks like I am done until October....... Thanks for all the info- may revisit this in the fall.

Yep. 2 adjusters as well as a short hard pipe running from one cylinder to the other. Brake line comes to top cylinder and bottom one has the bleeder.

Don't know if single or double in the front.  Haven't had a car with drum brakes since the last century......  It there an easy way to tell without pulling things apart.  Assume two adjusters instead of one in the back plate?  I have declared it my daily driver since I can't drive anywhere anyways.....I'll look but if I am going to dig in I am going all the way to discs.

Not to get to far back on topic, I'm wondering if your 850 has single leading shoe brakes?
Updating to twin leading shoe would be an improvement. I may be able to come up with
enough parts to assemble a set. Steve (CTR)

The $900?? Of course its a woman... the wife has decided she'd tired of feeding the local avian population ... so we need a bird proof veggie patch...

The flame? No, that involves a guy called Basil...

Living in the bush means we are socially isolated most of the time   Just had $900 worth of steel delivered for my next project... not much time for boredom

We obviously own different dictionaries...  so...thus .. I can believe its a matter of semantics.  My Latin is pretty much as old as my Mini but yes I agree (kinda ) with your interpretation because it supports my usage...

Screwed to the hub.. who'da thought of that..

But it did kindle another flame ... which will be interesting to pursue..I'll let you know.

Cheers, Ian

Ian, I had never seen [sic] used in that way before. The most common use is to show that a quoted phrase contains an error, but that it is quoted exactly as it was written. But your usage is also supported, although it seems to be the opposite of how you are using it. You learn something new every day, even grammar on the MM forum.

Although it is an uncommon practice, sometimes [sic] is used to indicate ironic use of a word. Brackets, not parentheses, should be used, and there should be a space before [sic]."

Hey Ian I'll take a guess Ian in group Nb they screw the spacer to the hub? For the road, is it then legal? Sic is a Latin term meaning “thus.” It is used to indicate that something incorrectly written is intentionally being left as it was in the original. Sic is usually italicized and always surrounded by brackets to indicate that it was not part of the original. Place [sic] right after the error. I'm going mad. This stay at home thing is killing me!!!!

Maybe I mis-spoke and should have said "use a modified drive flange....."

As an aside, do you know how the App J guys get around it?

Oh ..and sic translates as "so" .. Usually used with quotes but I use it to emphasise the properness of what might be considered an incorrect English usage.  When I say "never" I really mean it; as in "not ever"....

Cheers, Ian

and spacers are illegal in a lot of countries, for example OZ.

Ian do you know what (sic) means?

I don’t know how often you tune up your brakes but with time on your hands it might be worth a look.

Don’t worry about the getting wet furphy...  The reason I didn’t mention it is that I don’t habitually drive in rivers.... and, if I have to, my Dad taught me to ride the brakes gently (use the left foot) after driving through a ford ..or flood .  It doesn’t take long (like minutes) to dry them out and restore normal service....

I have never (sic) had any concerns about my Daughter driving her drum braked Mini in the rain...

The wheel bit can be annoying..  And I don’t know how you solve it beyond the suck it and see approach.  When Leyland Oz produced the first Minis (in the world, I think) with factory alloy wheels they fitted them over drum brakes.  It was VERY disappointing to find that you needed spacers - and modified calipers - to fit them to your S.

Cheers, Ian

Bummer.  Not looking to changes wheels. Are there spacers? Looks like drum wheels have an ET of 21 and Cooper 10" have offset of 32?  First you change the wheels then while you are at it you change the Camac tyres then ....... then you go with finned drums in back then.... more of a rabbit hole than I am looking for.  It stays in the garage when it is wet and the highest point in the county is the landfill so no long hills to worry about .  Guess I'll drive it as is for the moment to essential services.
