I have never, ever been able to get the A/C working correctly in my '87 Austin Mini City-E (UK spec car). 

I just eat more ice-cream, rolls the windows down and drive faster ...

  ~ 30 minutes in a Mini is more therapeutic than 3 sessions @ the shrink. ~
