MK1: early vs late

Sounds like a piece of string question... As Mr Bridger might say "For why...." ..... and according to whom?
While a 59 is definitely early and a 67 definitely late, is a 63 early or late? Its earlier than a 64 but later than a 62. Production changes started in 59 and finished in 67.. so which ones matter to your classification?
If we knew the rules we could play the game..

I would vote for 59/60 when talking cars, but on parts it would be parts older than the first change date. Examples being the change from single skin boot lids to double, metal to plastic window catches, non voltage stabilized to stabilized.

Hello Roger!
That's a great question! There could be a few differences that come to mind. Early Mk1s had a push button starter to the right of the gear lever. Could be the location of the sound deadening backing? or the gear shift exit? The shape of/location of any seat bracket cut outs?
I'll be interested to hear what others think!

I often see the terms “early” vs “late” when speaking of MK1s.
BAS International (carpets) has heel mats for “early” and “late” MK1s.
