On my later 1980's Mini I had to replace the dash cards. I used a sheet plastic that is used for advertising cards on the sides of buses. It is similar to styrene and easy to cut. I was even able to make a new parcel tray liner card, complete with raised part over the switch panel area. I wrapped them in vinyl, using spray adhesive suitable for plastic and the vinyl.
The advantage of the sheet plastic is that it is flexible and can be bent without kinking as the cardboard will do.
