100% small bore head. someone opened up the chamber and smoothed out the beak to make it like a cooper chamber, but it's a small bore 9 stud head with 90-degree heater valve and canted thermostat take off, only 9 stud holes, small valves, etc etc

Did Cooper S ever have valve keepers with the groove for the spring clips?

Spank speak true.  There was a small bore head with 9 studs which shows the same 12A185 casting number as the early S head AEG163.

same casting number was on a sprite 948 motor. Be wary of just relying on casting number alone to tell you the full story.

How many stud holes? What's the valve sizes? orientation of the thermostat housing and heater take off?

The motor you have pictured in the first post is a small bore inline spridget, so I suspect you may have a 948 head.

I may be interested if it proves to be tested for cracks.
You could message me through my profile.
Thanks in advance.

Has it been magnafluxed to see if it’s cracked between the valves?? I have the 2nd s head.  Tried to sell it for about $600 no takers. In the end I put it on my mini.  If it’s cracked between the valves you have a nice doorstop.

NAPA charged me $25 to magnafluxed it

I have an original Cooper S head 12A 185, from looking at the Mini Mani list it appears that it could be the first one. Any idea on values
