It sounds like you have #9 from the diagram below (which is greyed out). Unfortunately, #9 is not listed for the 2010 R57 Cooper Convertible, so I have no way to know which model it belongs to, or to know if it contains an IBS...

#1 is the IBS negative cable for your MINI.

#4 is the non-IBS standard negative cable.

Thank you for the quick response.  My cable looks different, as there is a separate smaller cable that comes off of the neg term, and goes into a small rectangular box about a foot away from the neg term. That box has two small dots on the outside cover. Don't know if this is a mod or not.

Hello all,

    I have a 2010 R57 mini cooper, and had to replace a bad battery (NAPA 8448) 9 MONTHS OLD).  My intention is to register the new batt with the vehicle. Shame on me for not registering it last time, but now that i have read a little..., i am not sure if my vehicle has the IBS installed. It looks as though , IF it is, that it is in a small box that is mounted about a foot away from the side of the neg terminal area of the battery. Can anyone help my out. * I have used my Schwaben scan tool, and it is telling me that either it is not installed, or that there is a problem with the actual IBS.
