On an original steel sided wagon the frame is made up of 4 pieces but they are all hooked together to form one single unit. It has studs on it to secure it to the car through holes in the side and nuts on the interior. As yours has been modified, I can understand they might have ground off the studs and glued it straight onto the body.

The frame is four separate pieces . I removed the interior panels and the scary part is there is no mounting hardware but there are big Globs of black goo coming from a couple of the holes so it looks like they may have glued the to the four side pieces on

A wild guess:

Maybe the entire frame is secured from the inside and separates when removed from the car. I doubt the outer part of the frame is removable separately - that would pose a security problem in that a thief could just pull off the outer trim.

I recently had a steering column fire in my 73 van (!!!) that had been converted to a wagon. Attached is a picture of the rear sliding windows. Does anyone know how the outer frame is attached and how to remove it so I can remove the Windows to replace the channels?
