Over the years and in a multitude of cars, I've found that the odometer often pauses for a bit at a 10,000 mile change.

It's almost like the mechanism needs more pressure to turn it than is being supplied - a bit like trying to turn something over with a piece of elastic, where you need enough backpressure/twist/windup to make it happen.

I'd bet you're now set fair for another 10,000km

When I got my Mini, it had a poorly-fitted speedometer cable. The speedometer worked until the cable warmed up, expanded and disconnected the internal core. Suddenly the needle would drop to zero... like I had achieved warp speed. (I did replace it.)

I was about to remove the passenger seat and dive under the dash when, voilá! It started working again! Once more, procrastination pays off.

...and you're not the only one.  I am comfortable with electrical things too, but didn't wish to disturb the old rats nest of (converted) wiring and whatnot back there, since everything currently works.  I am sure had I tackled it, the horn would go off every time I signaled left or the windshield wipers would go every time I put the car into 2nd gear (or something else equally weird)

I think mine will be at 96999 forever ;-D

May the force be with you !

Pull it out and take it apart....somewhat.  You'll see the piece that is slipping.  Manually move it ahead.

Has anyone had experience with an odometer that stopped working? When my Smiths odometer hit 50000 km it stopped. Nothing wrong with the cable and drive as the speedometer still works. Any suggestions other than tearing it apart and doing a wiggle/jiggle & lube?
