Thanks for the responses, my dealer appointment is this Friday, I'll try and see what matches before then. My guess is that I wired the wiper motor incorrectly which is burning the third fuse down out in 2 minutes! Wiring is the worst item for me, but thanks, I'll see what shakes!!

The colours on these old wires are hard to distinguish
The wiring harness should have:
Light Green/Orange = power supply to the wiper motor, to the wiper switch and washer switch.
Black = ground
Brown/Light Green =
Red/ Light green =
Blue/Light Green =
I think the Light Green/Orange to the wiper motor provides power for the "park" feature - when no other power is supplied, a slide(wipe) switch, keeps the motor turning until that switch hits a dead spot in its contact and the power is disconnected.
The last 3 should provide power for the 2 speeds and pulse, though I don't know which.
Hopefully someone who has dissected a wiper motor and knows which does what will chime in.

Oops, sorry - misread which fuse!
The third fuse down on your car should have a Light Green + White trace line wire on one side, providing power to the fuse from the ignition switch. The output side of the fuse should have a Light Green + Orange trace line wire leading to the windshield wipe, the wash/wipe switch, the heater fan switch and the tachometer (if you have one).
I don't think it would shut the engine off though - generally and according to the wiring diagram, once an engine has started, the electricity feeding the ignition is unfused. This is so the engine won't die if a fuse blows while you are driving.

It is unusual for several fuses to blow at once.
A few possibilities:
1. A group of wires has been rubbing on sharp metal which cut into the insulation and grounded, causing short circuits. Find it and fix it.
2. A wire has received much more current than it can handle, overheated and melted the insulation of itself and the surrounding wires in the loom. Replace the affected wires,
3. The typical Mini 4-fuse box is open (not sealed) at the back. It is common for the brass terminals corrode and cause intermittent open circuits (not shorts), and current cannot flow, like a blown fuse, but the fuse isn't blown. Replace the fusebox.
4. Water has gotten down the back of the fusebox and shorted out the load side of the fuses. Clean, dry (or replace) and protect.
Besides the fuses in the fuse box, you will likely have several in-line fuses.

Hello Forum....
I have an appointment to go through the wiring on the 89' Mini City I had shipped from the UK.. but not until about 2 weeks from today, here in Spokane, WA, As received the car is/was a total rust pile, wiring now the issue.....anyway, the car ran to the store the other day got home all good, then just stopped. I looked at the fuses today, of the 4 fuses the third one down, burnt. So put in a new fuse, car ran for 2 minutes until that fuse burned which shut off the car! Had a 25amp, just put in a 20amp to check... Difficult to drive to get the wiring fixed !!!
I did wire in a new wiper motor, likely wrong, wiring is my absolute worst area of repair.....wondering if any knowledgeable wrench out there has a clue to what could be the fix, or what wires on the 3rd use down might be screwed up?
thanks,
Rick
