I'm planning to see the car this Sunday and plan to look inside the gutter rail to see if I can find anything there. I did ask the seller about this but he didn't seem able to find it.

Thanks again!
No problem.
As stated in the link to the other topic about VINs that I shared with you, there were suggestions to look not only to the right side of the gutter rail, but also the center of it. Some cars are slightly off as to where it's placed. Although, sometimes there's a foam strip that is placed in the gutter to buffer the bonnet coming down, that may cover the VIN.
If it's still not visible, it was also suggested to look under the gutter rail by using your phone camera in selfie mode and place it under the rail to see if the stamping is visible from the underside. Maybe the top part of the rail was bondoed or and painted over. The impression may still be there underneath.
Good luck

Simple recipe for Excitement:  Take 1 Classic Mini. Throw in 1590cc's of engine. Add 5 gears. A dash of 94 octane. A sprinkle of style inside and out. Toss in 1 MadMan and finally heat tires and pavement to taste. Recipe produces 1 Mini VTEC conversion and full satisfaction. Motor on!

Good day to you as well.

Being that the plate isn't complete may be a good sign that it is a replacement. Easy to replace. A lot of suppliers sell them. It's not uncommon to see.

Most plates have a manufacturer named on top of the plate. Example, ROVER, AUSTIN, MORRIS. Which one does it state? If it is says Austin, or Morris, on a '93 Mini, that'll be another flag, being that ROVER was making Minis during that time that the one in question was made.

If the seller is willing, could you ask to see insurance/registration papers to see which number they are using for that?

Have you checked inside the gutter rail on the right side of the car's engine bay, below the windshield surround piece, for the VIN? There's a VIN stamped in that area (if you're not aware), unless that piece was replaced, body worked or heavily painted over. See the thread here for more info, and scroll down to see the photos of where I'm mentioning if it doesn't sound clear. https://www.minimania.com/msgThread/126995/1/1/VIN_no_location

Good day all,

I'm looking at a 93 Mini and the VIN that was provided to me by the seller is SAXXNNACBD054695P. It has the stamped plate in the engine bay with the same number but the Paint and Trim fields are not stamped. It does not look to match the pattern of the 90s Mini's VIN code of SAX-XN-N-A-Y-B-B-D-######. This leads me to believe that it was a restored Mini and maybe someone replaced the VIN plate.
I've never seen a Mini with this kind of VIN number so I wanted to ask others if they may have any more information or may know why a Mini may have a differently coded VIN.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading!
