Fussed with the Mini the rest of Saturday.  Then gave up and went inside for some dinner.

Sunday the sun came out so I went back in to try the idea I had come up with the night before.  Small piece of safety wire, thread it thru the holes and use it to guide the clevis up to the hole.  All by feel since you can't see nor get more than two fingers into that area.  Couldn't make that work even with smaller safety wire.

Took a look at the engine side of the fire wall and "forget that".  Got to thinking of a magnet but my two are to large.  Then after digging thru my tool box I found a very small tool that had a small magnet on the end.  Wala!! was able get it close, then I could press the clevis thru with a second finger.  FINALLY.

Good to hear you both made it to your destinations in one piece. Sounded like it was leading up to something worse at the start.

.
Simple recipe for Excitement:  Take 1 Classic Mini. Throw in 1590cc's of engine. Add 5 gears. A dash of 94 octane. A sprinkle of style inside and out. Toss in 1 MadMan and finally heat tires and pavement to taste. Recipe produces 1 Mini VTEC conversion and full satisfaction. Motor on!

This morning, we are going to church, myself, lady friend and my dog. My street T's onto a major road. I look to the left to see if it's clear to get onto the road. All clear as I turn right. There was a line of traffic going in the opposite direction. All of a sudden this idiot from the line crosses the double yellow to illegally pass slower traffic in his lane. A near head on was avoided because I used the shoulder and the mini being small. It all happened in an instant and out of no where.

Window rolled down, enjoying the drive up Bald Peak near Newberg, Ore.  Funny rattling noise when I was in 1st gear so I thought I'd head home.  Stop sign just outside the small town of Carlton.  When I pushed in the clutch the pedal goes right to the floor but the clutch doesn't disengage.  I jumped out and pushed her over to the side of the intersection.  Popped the hood and all looks good at the slave cylinder.  Looked at the pedal again, wiggled it and remembered a problem with it before years ago.  There's a clevis pin at the top of the pedal and it has fallen out.

Great!   Had a couple nice guys give me a fast push and I was able to jam it into 3rd gear.  Now unfortunately I'm going the wrong way.  But, I drove down the road with my emergency flashers going and after a couple miles found and intersection large enough to make a 180 and not stall the car.  Well I'm about 8 miles from home and there are 3 intersections with stop signs.  I was lucky enough to time them and cross them with my flashers going and flashing my headlights.

Got home ok and with the help of a couple neighbors pushed into the garage (up hill).  Now I just need really small hands and fingers to replace the Clevis pin.
