Well? What the verdict?
Hard to make a guess. Not much to go by with the minimalist write-up, without seeing it and what little photos there were.

Simple recipe for Excitement: Take 1 Classic Mini. Throw in 1590cc's of engine. Add 5 gears. A dash of 94 octane. A sprinkle of style inside and out. Toss in 1 MadMan and finally heat tires and pavement to taste. Recipe produces 1 Mini VTEC conversion and full satisfaction. Motor on!

Looks like it is probably a 998 engine with rod change trans. Running 12" wheels so guessing it has 8.4 discs. Aussie mokes had rubber covers over and behind front and rear wheels to help with overspray. The ones on it are way larger than what it normally there. So yeah, it does look odd for sure.
"How can anything bigger be mini?"

Has anyone been able to go check it out? I wish they would have posted photos of the underside, battery box, or at least put some info about the car. Does it run/drive? Anyone know what engine it has or the brake setup? And why does the rear fender area look weird to me? Was there an option to have the rear arches filled in?

I've seen worse but I've seen better. Definitely missing some things as you said. Those wheels or hub caps need to go.
Horrible write-up for this auction lot. They mostly talked about everything but the actual car. The only thing that was mentioned of that Moke was that it comes from the family of Pete Lovely. Other than that, talking about how Mokes were used with the paratroopers, where you can find them, James Bond connections, some race driver and his Ferrari, and some other yellow Moke at a previous auction that got $40K. If one pays anything close to $40K for this, I'd like to know who it is so I can sell them some them something.

Hi See the craiglist ad for the Moke, and gives some info about the Lucky auction. It is lot 230. If I'm right, it is an australian version ( Engine compartment and switchgear ) But, it's missing stuff, has been converted to LHD, etc. (It IS a Moke, so....) Happy Bidding! https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ctd/d/tacoma-1976-austin-mini-moke/7489061188.html
