A twin box system will make less noise like this. I have an old school round glass pack muffler in the tunnel before the rc40 type muffler similar to the one shown.

I had been running a Fletcher twin exit muffler with a straight downpipe from LCB on a 1275, the noise level was unacceptable. In an effort to reduce noise/drone I recently switched to an RC40 center exit with DTM tail pipe silencer with a straight RC40 downpipe, but this setup was also unacceptable. A bottle style resonator has since been put into the downpipe but the car is still louder than I'd like.

What systems are known for muffling/absorbing exhaust sounds?
