Not a Catalina Moke! I talked to this guy got all the info he had on the Moke and He sent me a copy of title which used that body number, which by the way wasn't still attached to that body. Then he sent me a piece of an engine tag as the VIN, which wasn't a moke 850 engine either. I looked thru my list of car body numbers couldn't find it. After I told Leo that in my expert opinion it wasn't from the fleet, he argued that 2 other people told him it was. Since I actually touched every one of the Catalina Mokes, I'd say my opinion holds a little more weight, but you can make your own conclusions. What he has is a Moke body with a detached body number tag, an engine tag that doesn't go to a Moke, no VIN tag and no Commision number. Hope this settles the issue. To set the record straight again. I was the only culprit behind the great Moke rescue from Catalina. I spent 3 days with a friend of mine reassembling and moving them to the shipping dock to be sent by barge to Long Beach Ca. Tom bought some of them once they landed in Long Beach. He helped load them on the truck and that was his extent of participation. A total of 58 Mokes were extracted from various parts of the Island. There were some in better condition than others. Apparently they purchased some privately owned Mokes when the came up for sale over the years and inserted them into the fleet. Also some that had been in an accident or had blown engines and were taken out of service years prior faired better. I still have a few of the original Catalina Mokes with me in SC. 72Moke I sent you an email a few years ago stating I have one the same color as in your pic and might sell it. Needs total restoration. I have a VHS of all the cars before extraction but haven't gotten around to getting it digitized. Someday I'll write the adventure down for all to read. Until then the mystery continues.

Tom showed me a photo of about that number stacked on top of each other on a semi. I got mine at a good price through a mutual friend.

I bought my first Moke from Tom in Minn, he had several stacked up on top of each other. I bought what I thought was the best one but I still had to buy a bunch of panels from the UK. I dropped a 1275 in mine, goes like $hite off a shovel!

.
Simple recipe for Excitement:  Take 1 Classic Mini. Throw in 1590cc's of engine. Add 5 gears. A dash of 94 octane. A sprinkle of style inside and out. Toss in 1 MadMan and finally heat tires and pavement to taste. Recipe produces 1 Mini VTEC conversion and full satisfaction. Motor on!
