The Burlen biased to fixed needle adaptor p/n M8050 is used to convert a spring needle carburator to a fixed needle. The fixed needle carburator piston already has this part installed.

There's a small adaptor that allows a sprung or unsprung needle to be fitted to any SU. You should be able to buy one from any supplier of needles..

You can remove the cap that holds the spring on needles like the ADM and use them like a non-sprung needle. Just make sure that the carb piston can still touch the the bridge of the carb body.

I looked up the ADM needle and that one is spring loaded.     Or maybe I need an SU set up for a spring loaded needle for my car?

Thanks everyone!

The HS4 with the non-sprung needle was only stock on MkII 998s with automatic transmissions. The recommended needles were: Rich M1; Standard AC; Lean HA. The ADM is close to the AC but it is also longer. The length difference might cause or might not, it depends on the jet installed in the carb.

I am putting together a 998 with a single 1 1/2 SU.    The carb is an older one that the needle is not spring mounted.    It is not an HIF.    This will be used with the original type cast iron intake and exhaust manifold, and stock exhaust    There have been no mods to the engine, and stock air filter.

I have looked through various SU needle charts and I get more confused the more I look.    Anyone know what needle should be in there?    There is no needle in the carb for me to reference.    I am piecing together this setup.

Thanks!
Michael
