Assuming you have a gen2 MINI, it must have been a significant mis-alignment since I would have a hard time seeing the difference if the cam skipped a tooth or two...
What are the symptoms that prompted you to take the valve covers off? Does the car run at all?

so I took off my valve cover and it looked like the cams were not insync, I turned the motor over by hand and put in the crank lock pin and put on the camshaft locks and they were perfect, I know what I saw and they werent lined up when I first took off the valve cover, do I have a bad cam gear ?
