As the mini aged, the parent company names have changed. Going back to the origins, there was Morris and Austin independent companies. They merged to become BMC.  The A engine was in this time period. The A+ was strengthen with the external ribs. I think it was in the time frame of  British Leyland and Austin Rover. Those with more exacting knowledge can correct me.

I'm trying to get a better understanding of the differences between A A+ and standard engines for the mini. My understanding is that the A/A+ engines just aren't originally manufactured by MBC. Please correct me if I'm wrong
