I have been reading this thread and wish to offer some advice about windshield installation if I may. I used to work at a shop that installed tires and glass.

New rubber is a real pain to work with especially the corners, warming it up is a good idea but no direct heat like a heat gun or blow torch. the "fillet" is called a lock strip and it forces the rubber against the glass and the pinchweld to make a nice seal. You shouldn't have to use urethane (goop) anywhere it should seal well enough without it. Not all "windshield" leaks are from the windshield, Blocked sun roof drain pipes is the most common and leaks between roof skins is another one.

The rope trick works just fine as long as you take it slow and use lots of lube, small engine pull cord makes an excellent installation rope.As for lube dish soap and water works, washer fluid mixed 50/50 with water also works well and dries out slower. For the lock strip you can use either of those but foaming glass cleaner sprayed into the slot in the rubber and onto the lock strip works the best. never use metal tools near the glass you will lprobably shell it which will then cause cracks due to stresses later on.

Hope this helps.

Replying to emails about orders would be a good first step in building confidence...

We appreciate the patience and understanding that our customers have shown over these past several months. Getting through this without hurting our customers is absolutely our goal. For those with engine, transmission and differential orders, we are working as diligently and quickly as we can to complete those orders.  Our engine builder has been on a reduced schedule because of medical reasons.  We are hopeful that we'll be able to get a stocking order received in about two to three weeks.  We will be finalizing that shipment later this week, after New Years'.

I will only speak for myself. I shied away from ordering from MM. But I would bet that I'm not alone. I do want you to survive and continue to exist that is why I placed my order. So how do you get out of this mess without your customers getting hurt?

Well said @64s

For those of us with orders still pending delivery; can you provide some updates? I would normally have cancelled after such a delay. I'd like to help, but some  updates here would be helpful.
Are orders being fulfilled?

Yes, Mini Mania has filed for reorganization. We are still open for business, and we are working with our suppliers and freight carriers to normalize lead times. It is an ongoing process, we are working under the guidance of the court trustee, and we are trying as hard as we can to get orders fulfilled. When we can order domestically, we can place smaller, more frequent orders, but when the parts come from overseas we do have to place larger orders to offset the shipping costs. Most of our classic parts come from the UK, as you know. On top of that, we’ve had to cut our staff down to the bone and that means a lot of calls go to voice mail, and I am struggling to answer emails. We appreciate your patience and support as we work through this. We’re a small but dedicated group, and we’re determined to succeed.

I'd say a month is a very long time. Pull the plug.

I have a  question for this board. If you place an order, how many days would you wait before canceling the order if you do not get it?

Hi Larry,

Sorry, I'm confused, you haven't ordered since 2004. Did you use a new email address?

Larry, I placed an order online November 23 which is a Saturday. I also started this thread the very same time.I figured no one is working on Saturday and hopefully someone would enter the order on Monday. I'm counting 15 days so far and not counting weekends. I'm on the other coast so delivery should take 5 to 7 days. I ordered a windshield.

I ordered another windshield from a company that supplies English car parts the day before. I had the windshield from the other English car parts supplier in 3 days. Sad to say, nothing but crickets so far from MM.

I'm hoping MM gets their act together. I want to support them. I am supporting them. I am hopeful they will come through.

So did anyone here actually place an order and recieve it in the last month?? I've called and called, emailed both directly and thru their pass thru ask a question system with no response. Yes I know they filed for chapt 11. Yes I know there are other suppliers out there. So I'm looking for a specific yes you placed an order and received it. Yes you've actually called and reached a live body or yes you placed an order and never got a resposnse or your parts. Thanks

Order update: I have received a portion of my order two days ago. The rest is pending delivery - I imagine not in stock and coming from the UK, maybe?

I think the main reason it went better the second time was that you had 2 people doing the job. I would never attempt putting a windshield in by myself. Glad it worked for you.

The proper sealant remains flexible but goes hard.  You don't need a lot, but it's a crap-shoot without it as to whether it will seal or not.

Alex, I've seen the windshield sealant used by the windshield guys. I just don't want to goop up everything. I know that they work when done properly.

I hope things improve!

Is there any risk? I have an order in the works!

We need our mini parts!

''Im always questioning myself. The 30 year old OEM rubber is still very pliable and no cracks or splits. I removed it and am using a new rubber. I was doing a one man install, the rubber was relative stiff working in 55 degree weather. I did not warm the rubber at all. I was using stiff metal spreaders to get the rubber to move. I was anxious to get started reassembling the mini. With 20/20 hindsight, I should have waited one day. During the week, the weather warmed up another 5 degrees. Working outside, the weather can turn against you quickly. This is leading me to think about warming the rubber. Bring the water to boiling, l think it would cool quickly but should remain softer to work with.

I think youve found the problem.
Only ever use a hard plastic tool - I'm using very tired old Harbour Freight scrapers (long overdue replacement) which get gouged by the glass instead of shattering/cracking it.  Don't be tempted to do the rope trick either, it rips the seal.

Use proper windscreen sealant in between the car and the seal, and the seal and the glass, it virtually guarantees it to be leak-free.

I'm doing fine Jim, thanks for asking. I think it was at MME '18 in NY when we last spoke in person. I've enjoyed following your various threads here on MM. Keep up the ambitious work, and I look forward to seeing the fruits of your labor sometime in the near future.
