As daft as it may seem, good old fashioned Blutac works very well to hold the trims on.

It was a press-on fit when I did mine on my first Mini, though that was about 50 years ago! 

The main concern as I see it is keeping the ends from working loose. I'd use a glue safe for the plastic and paint to keep the ends from working loose. I'd avoid rivets or screws as they  attract rust.

I have some exterior side trims silver (actually plastic) to attach.

i think some people have riveted them to the side flange that runs all along the sill and wheel arches but i dont want to do that.

does anyone have an opinion on using glue on these or will they stay on anyway without glue?  

i heave heard that you have to soak them in hot water to make them flexible
