Question:
I have been watching your excellent youtube video on fitting a rib case gearbox to a 948, however, unless I missed it didn't cover which carbon thrust to use. In my case I want to do this in a Morris minor. I believe there are 3 different thrusts I think for a 948, a 1098 and a 1275, which should I use?
Answer:
You'll always use the release bearing for the clutch package you have - so it would be the 948 type. You may also want to use the earlier type fork from the smoothcase box in case the ribcase type doesn't center correctly.

ENGINE TRANSPLANTS - gearbox information
Created: November 01, 2000
Selecting the right final drive ration is a subject worthy of an entire book to explain the whys and wherefores, and also causes much consternation on the part of the transplanter. Much confusion’s spread over which gearbox has the best ratios, is best to use, and with which FD. For a detailed account on this and covering all gearboxes fitted as standard to the Mini, see the relevant separate articles 'Gearbox - Standard production gearbox types'.
