MINI SALES EXCEED BMW'S EXPECTATIONS
BMW says sales of the new British-built Mini have exceeded expectations. A total of 62,142 Minis were sold worldwide in the first-half of this year. BMW says sportier Cooper versions accounted for 38,816 of them. The German carmaker recently announced that Mini production at its Oxford plant is being increased from 100,000 to 120,000 units a year. BMW says total group sales for the first-half reached 543,742 cars. This is up 18.2% on the same period during 2001. BMW is now on course to top the one million sales mark in 2002 - a first for the company.
