Selling my 1993 River Mini Mayfair!
This car has the 1275cc efi engine with 4-speed manual. It was Japanese domestic market (JDM) so it is right hand drive (RHD). Overall great shape with 75,767 kms / 47,079 miles (odometer shows kms). This classic Mini came to the USA in 2020 and has a clean Maryland title.
The JDM Minis are known to have a few more creature comforts, including air conditioning, which still blows cold. The radio works and plays cassettes nicely, but as it is a Japanese unit the radio frequency range is different than the US—with some overlap. It also has fog lights and working interior and trunk lights.
The Mini is an absolute blast to drive, particularly on the nice curvy roads in Montgomery County. It handles like an absolute go kart and rockets around. It revs happily and with gusto, surprisingly torquey for what it is. With its small size, light weight, and tight handling it feels like you are flying…at and under the speed limit. It shifts well especially when you rev match but will sometimes spit out second gear when coasting. Brakes work great. I always put premium in it.
The paint is in pretty good shape, classic red with white roof. There’s a little fading and corrosion in the usual spots—these cars are known to rust but this one has been garage kept as long as I’ve had it and I actually had some patches of rust repaired and resprayed following some work on the rear of the car.
Interior is in great shape, seats are comfortable, all controls work as they should. There’s a little bit of old car creaky plastic but I’ve never seen a mini that didn’t creak a little, and I’ve seen lots. Some fading on a couple plastic buttons but overall great shape.
I’ve upgraded a couple things over the years including switching bulbs to LEDs (this makes a huge difference at night). I also added several Steveson Motor Co. items (Google them!) such as the clear dark glass aviation style sun visors, seat mount brackets that move the seat further back, and 3D printed cup holder mounted on a seat frame bolt. The car got new tires earlier this year courtesy of eBay Japan. Newish battery. Also has newer wiper blades, but only driven in rain twice under my stewardship and not driven on salty roads ever.
For the right buyer, I’m happy to include my service manual and some parts with the car, including original pieces replaced by me with new.
