Thanks for the suggestions. I will find the fuse behind guage. The 4 fuses in the fuse box are all ok. Replaced the rocker switch already & that didn't help

Yeah rocker switch. That or sometimes people run a fuze inline along the wiring. Usually happens in car stereo equipment but you never know.

Those lights do have a fuse. On a 1979 that fuse is the lowest of the 4 in the 4 fuse holder, or if it is an earlier car, those lights are fused via an in-line fuse holder under the hood above the speedo hole.
Having said that, the rocker type switches fail frequently. The tail lamps side of the circuit don't draw a whole lot, but when the headlights melt the switch down anything can happen. Fitting a pair of relays to actually carry the current to the headlamps is a good conversion to consider.

OK throwing this out there because I can't seem to find the issue. The lights don't have a fuse, so that's not the problem. I've looked for bad wires and replaced any in question. One evening I had my lights on, turned them off then back on again & poof...no lights. I currently have no head or tail lights or dash light. Any suggestions as to where to look? This is on a 79 Austin Mini
Thanks for any suggestions.
