I was going to say I heard that width was more important but Riley beat me as usual

It's not the length of your dipstip that counts, it's how you use it. Bah da boom.

I can't believe I beat everyone else to that.

I suppose the crucial dimension is the distance from the collar to the level line.

next time you change your oil and filter start the car and let it get oil pressure, turn the car off and

let it set for 20 minutes, check your dip stick and mark the dip stick at the full line with a hacksaw blade, just enough to make a nice mark, you can also just add 4 quarts to start and mark it and then ad the 5th quart and make another mark

this way you know YOUR dipstick is correct

The collar with the O-rings goes into the dip-stick tube so its actually about 1" longer. On my 1275 A motor I get 11 1/2 from the bottom of the bevel on the collar.

Can anyone confirm the length from end of dipstick to seat.  My dipstick measure 10-1/4". I am not sure if this is correct, concerned on actual oil level. I believe this is an aftermarket dipstick and it appears the seat has moved....my engine is 998cc.
