BIG, as in 75-100 Minis... You can have as much fun as we just did with around 20 Minis. So lets see more CMU get togethers/events around the country!

Yes great relaxing times and a bunch of Mini's and friends to boot, thanks again Peter and Joe for putting the event together.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

They don't have to be BIG like the Mini 56 will be, they just have to be.

Concrete masonry units. They're what your average Joe commonly refers to as "cinder blocks".

There have been a lot of questions regarding this free event (well, not anymore)  so I've selected a few for your review:

Minis in the Keys  Questions!!!

1. Is this event open to everyone?  Do I need a Mini to attend?
Yes, and no. If you don't have a classic mini, maybe this is a hint that you should get one immediately, Sergio  in Miami has a few for sale, ready to go, in different colors, or maybe you can rent one for this event. Do it quick!!! as Mini prices are sure to skyrocket as the event draws near!

2. Is this event open to all cars?
No, participation must be in a Classic Mini, or variants only, (see # 18) manufactured between 1959 and 2000. You know, old Minis, little tires, roll up/sliding windows, etc.

3. Can I drive my regular car and just hang out and follow the Classic Minis to the drives and show?, they are real cool to see!!
There is no "show" in this event, to participate you must be a member of Classic Minis United,
(It’s FREE!!) be registered for the event, (It’s FREE) and participate in a Classic Mini. It would be rude and disrespectful to just show up and tag along. You can however, register for the event and ride in one of the Classic Minis, regardless of what car you showed up in. Ask nicely, praise the Minis, and bribe the owners, they will be happy to take you along, bring $$$ for drinks and snacks for the Mini driver!! It is suggested you preregister so no time is wasted at the event. It will be lonely at the hotel if you are hanging out there. As for seeing Minis, this is one event where you will.  The first 3 people that need a ride will ride with Joe Machado, he loves company.

4. I get hot driving my Classic, and the seats hurt my butt, and I don’t have a GPS navigation system in the Mini, I don’t know what color to paint my Mini, my Mini does not have a name, I never drive it for more than 5 miles at a time, I don’t have a/c, cruise control, or cupholders, my girlfriend gets her hair messed up from the wind and I can’t hear the radio either, and I am afraid I will get lost. Can I tow the Classic Mini with my new MINI to the event?
Yes, if you have to, you can use anything as a tow vehicle, once there you may park the tow vehicle out of the way, with the other tow vehicles, and enjoy the Classic the rest of the time!! (You could always just follow me, since I know where I am going ) Leave your Mini in primer for all we care. Name it “Buddy”. As for your girlfriend’s hair, purchase a Minis United cap, stylish and hip. And there is something to be said about a girl getting out of a Mini and tossing her hair to the side.

5. Why aren't other cars allowed to participate? It would be politically correct, you know.
This is a Classic Minis United event, which is limited to classic Minis ONLY!!! this is non negotiable, written in the bylaws of the club in blood or something like that, so don't press the issue. If you don’t have a Classic Mini, there is plenty of time to buy/rent/borrow one. (see #1) . As for politics, they are not discussed much at CMU gatherings, as SOME PEOPLE, get very heated.

6. Are there really free kayaks and bikes?
Well, they are free to use during the event, supply is limited so get them early.

7. Will the  blender be available? Or are we doing a drinking around Key Colony Beach event Sat. nite?
The blender and the Captain may attend, and I think you have the wrong event, as we really drive the cars, water is the drink of choice, (sure it is!) during the day anyway. There is a nice Seafood place nearby for Friday nites dinner.

8. When are we leaving? Are we caravaning to this event?
Most of us will leave the Miami area Thursday, in the morning, so we can enjoy all the event has to offer time. I’m sure we will all drive together, but separately.

9. What day is the car show, are there awards?
See # 3. Just attending this event is a prize in itself.

11. That Peter is such an #$$%&@! maybe he will get bit by a white shark during the event!
Stranger things have occurred. But I would not count on it.

12. I have little children, is it true that there will be clowns and entertainment in this event?
Yes, and they will be getting out of little cars, all day long. As for entertainment, there are plenty of characters that attend this event.

13. What happens if it rains?
We get to use the wipers, maybe they’ll work.

14. When are we returning?
If this is your primary concern maybe you should not go, that way you will be home for whatever you had to be home for. But probably we will return Sunday evening.

15. What do I wear to these events?
Well, swimsuits are always good but there is no dress code, you wear what you want, I do understand that Classic Minis United shirts will be available for purchase. Nice pink and turquoise colors too, chosen by top fashion consultants. I would suggest something tight that shows off your physique. I personally prefer lighter colors, with a Mini logo, and a cap, maybe long sleeves if it gets too sunny.!!!

16. What's in the goodie bags?
What goodie bags??????. Did I miss this last time??

17. Where are we driving to?
Key West

18. What is a "variant"? I am not good at math.
Mini Clubmans, Minis with other engines, Rileys, Elfs, Mokes, Estates, Travellers, not your weird relatives (mira que joden, cono!)

19. Do I have to stay at the host hotel? Is there free Wi-Fi? Or a spa?
No, you can commute everyday to the events. It IS a long drive from Miami, I think they have some sort of antenna on the roof? Isn’t this what the beach is for? For $0.25, the beds kinda vibrate.

20. I’m afraid I will not know anyone, and these Mini guys speak a different lingo.
Good time for you to make new friends, and learn new phrases, keep the kiddies away from guys working on their cars or they’ll really learn a couple of choice words , just think of the trip as a……………….cultural experience, a trip back in time, when you actually heard your engine as you drove, waved at folks with your hands out the windows, rolled up your own windows and lived without a/c and cupholders. (Well, some of these 1967 Japanese Minis have a/c AND cupholders!!! Luxury I tell you.)

21. Will there be a place to wash our cars??
You actually do this during an event??? Isn’t this the #1 cause of rust?? Maybe it will rain at nite.

22. I did not see a list as to who’s going, how will I ever know who will be there???
You can start one, and be first!!

24. Will there be a Minis in the Keys next year??
Depends on you.

I sincerely hope that this will clear up any questions/misconceptions you may have and dispel myths about this event, let's go!!!!, a good time is assured at all CMU events!!!! If there are any additional items that I have not covered, please ask away and I’ll get the answers for you.

Just a reminder that you have TWO WEEKS to get your registration in, if you want to attend for FREE.  If you wanna wait, and would rather and pay ten bucks to have fun.  We'll take your $$$.  Somebody has to pay for that side of Brazilian beef, and soft drinks!
