The plate is riveted to the top of engine compartment by the latch. it is a 1972 mini orginally from Germany. The two registrations where car was plated have this number as the VIN.

More info would be helpful. Mini? What year? Where is the plate, exactly? What does it look like? Pictures? But it sounds like a body number, to me. The engine number is on a plate on the engine just below the thermostat housing.

I wouldn't think so, but the best place to find out would be to check with Ohio's DMV.

Can I get a title in Ohio for a mini with the engine number (number on plate under hood) on the out-of-state registration? There doesn't seem to be a VIN. The engine number has a letter followed by nine numbers.
