I doubt you'll find a way to determine the rating of your current fluid. When in doubt I would take the time to flush out the old and replace with new fluid. It's easy and doesn't require special tools when done correctly - gravity bleeding works well.
Oh, and the brake system is a closed system, meaning the fluid level should never drop under 'normal' operating conditions. If the reservoirs are low then that's an indication of a system failure. Perhaps one of your brake cylinders is leaking?
I think we're going to plan another garage day at Pat's place in the next few months. That might be a good time to give your ride a good once over once you get the head problem sorted.

Is there any way to tell if I have DOT 3, 4 or 5 fluid in my brake and clutch cylinders??? I have no clue but think it is 4 because I am picking a number....I simply want to top my resevoirs and do not want to drain or clean the systems....Is there even a way to swap over to a non caustic dot 5...if 3 or 4 is currently in the system....
Thoughts?
