subframe color question - rust red, looks factory.
I have a very nice condition front sub that appears that it hasn't been installed in a car yet and is an almost semigloss rust red like a red primer but shinier. The paint appears to be good condition and the sub very straight. Is this the color new subframes are delivered in? If it is, should it be painted (strip or paint over) or can I leave that factory finish on and will it last? Favorite color for subframes?
They were all black AFAIK. The rust red color you have may be red oxide primer. I think dark colors work best on sub frames as they look like crap with dust and oil on the light colors i have seen them painted, unless you are building a trailer queen of course.
If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.
