Regarding the roof jump: in the book about the making of the movie, the director admitted he'd failed to get sufficient camera angles to truly convey the amazingness of the jump, and he wished that he could shoot it again, but everyone was so relieved that it had gone off, the one time, that no one wanted to push their luck and try doing it a 2nd time!

When jumping the roof the producers had an escape plan with a plane waiting in case anyone got hurt after the local authorities told them that they would be held responsible.

additionally, minis were designed for a cool environment (the UK), and so they didn't get as much margin in their original design to deal with wear and tear in really hot climates

However, minis can do quite well in some very hot countries, so it is more of a matter of "small margin", rather than a truly inherent weakness.

Add to this they were originally very small engined, and most of the years they were built, the vast majority of them were 1100 or less.

It is only since the '90s that really large % were made with displacements 1275, (and via the aftermarket /modification) 1290 and up.

sorry, robster, the answer to your question is that minis with healthy cooling systems don't overheat

why do you guys think why minis overheat while other old cars like toyota etc do not?

pls dont tell me that minis have small radiator, i dont dig that ,well they have small engines too,its not at all too big for the radiator to cool it.

No coolants 40 - 50 years ago?  Why would anyone use 100% coolant anyways?

what? 50???, gosh, when i watched the movie they make it appear that the minis are tough, jumping and slamming ,burning rubber, very nimble, then they were all lies????

i was just wondering, classic minis now adays is notorious in overheating, even if you put 50/50 coolant or 100% coolant, BUT i can just imagine how were the minis 40 -50 years ago when there were no coolants yet, and all they put in their radiator is water...my goodness!!

I spoke to Reme and his boys during the filming of a Citroen TV commercial in McCloud, CA and he said they went through (wrecked!) over 50 Minis during the filming of the Italian Job.

Bits of two movies, Italian Job and Goodbye Pork Pie.

I loaned my copy of Goodbye Pork Pie to someone, I'll never make that mistake again if I ever pony up for another copy. Funny film if you ever get a chance to view it. (Usually played at Mini Meets)

I'd pay for a DVD copy if anyone wants to burn one. (GPP)

Contact me i may be able to help you with that.

There was a Youtube video you posted a link to some time back that my computer blocked the link to and had to restart. I didn't like that either.

Although many Youtube videos are fine to watch, not all. Some of the links are corrupt . Just so you know.

Most of that footage is from the original The Italian Job (1969). You should watch the whole movie, it's great!
