I changed my toughened glass windshield last year also; not because of breakage, but piece of mind.  I'm sure the garbage collecter wondered 'what's this from?'.

I installed a replacement laminated screen sourced from a friend who uses his mini in vintage rally's and had a spare available to me for about a hundred dollars.

I reeally feel for you guys over there, the grief you have to get scarce parts like this.

Here in Oz a rock broke my original toughened glass screen on a Wednesday afternoon last year.
By 3pm the following day, O'Brien Glass had supplied & fitted a new laminated one, it was covered by Shannons insurance so didn't cost me a penny.
It is lightly tinted all over; there's no dirty big blue band across the top 1/4 of the screen like many new ones have. Laughing

This past summer I needed a screen for a job. Looking around I found a shop who had 5 on the shelf and was offering a deal to rid themselves of old stock. Seems they have suffered a big loss and now buy a certian number to get the big strong can't break these box full. I think they also have a special box for sending them on from their place as well as a handling fee. I think we paid $250. all in and felt good about it. Not a deal but sort of a deal. I did not mark it up, didn't feel I could.  I have a shelf of broken new ones people have brought me after trying to install them. Steve (CTR)

$200 for a screen inc everything and shipping is acceptable.

I don't stock windscreens anymore as the breakage rate in transit is too great.  By the time you've factored in wastage and basic shipping costs the unit price is horrific.

We once lost 30 screens when one of the freight handlers "somewhere" in transit scraped a pair of forklift truck forks up the side of a box.
With no way of proving who had done it and where, we had to swallow a massive loss.

Hugh good thought but my new windshield was delivered today. All in; gasket, lock strip, end finisher, shield, tool, and shipping/handling under $200. I just wish I could have got one from the UK because they sell them for $50, such is the US markup.

Markup?  Well, consider that the $50 windshield in the UK must be shipped or taken to the port for loading into a container.  From there, ocean freight paid to ship container across the Atlantic, thru the anama Canal, and up to San Francisco.  Once it arrives, a Customs Broker is hired to process the paperwork for every item in the container.  From there US Customs gets their hand out and takes a bit of cash.  After it's cleared, a truck has to pick it up in San Fran and take it a couple hundred miles up into California to the supplier.  He has to pay folks to unload it, inventory it, and put it on a shelf.  Then you call and it has to be boxed up and shipped across country to you.  Take all that into consideration and add in some profit (remember profit is not a dirty word) because that is why Don and others are in business.  Pretty soon you'll see where the extra $150 bucks goes.  Here's a thought though...if enough folks order parts out of England (either directly or ala Clown) we can run all the US Mini parts dealers out of business.  What a wonderful day when these money grubbing US dealers are no more and we can pay lots of extra shipping + delivery time for trivial stuff like points and filters, gaskets, and little stufff we suddenly need.  No, I think you got a bargain for the $200 windshield.  JMHO!

I'm in business. We import frequently. The markup is a bit extreme. I know the cost of procurement. I know the cost of inventory. I don't need a lesson in why. And yes profit is not a dirty word I'm all for it. Lets try this one; wholesaler buys screen for say 20% less in the UK because he is a wholesaler, so now it cost $40, decides just to ship 4, because the market is thin for them and you want to run a lean inventory, it doesn't go over the customs threshold because of the value, ships by DHL in 3 days, freight costs $200 (I'm being generous my seats from Newton were bigger, heavier, and in 2 boxes were $500), you have your screen delivered to your warehouse, $10/hour employee takes 30 minutes to warehouse them. it sits for someone to buy it. Your investment, discounting your warehouse space, is $62.50, markup to the public say you go big and go with a 50% margin you sell the screen for $125. In this example I think charging $200 just for the screen is a bit excessive don't you? By the way I paid $114 for the screen it self from another supplier my assumption is they have similar overhead. JMHO!

Minisport-USA.com ships. Shipping is expensive. Check with Mike Guido and see if there is an alternate route to get it shipped that may be cheaper.

As the title. MM doesn't ship them the UK guys don't ship them. How did you get your new wind shield? I can't exactly drive on down to MM and grab one.
