Tise,

Could you please send me an E-mail (address in my profile)?  I've got a 'Longhorn product' question - maybe you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

John

Well it was 55* here today.

This is what I did... I hooked up to my cart and sold beef hotdog and pulled pork BBQ.

But now I set up right next to the Market. On VA 16 aka "The Back of The Dragon"

This road is a blast !!!

I use to set up here. Across from the Thompson Valley Market

Both photos were taken Aug and Oct... Not today...

How about a short story ... With the 69 911S....

Dad  wanted to see the movie "Le Mans"  Starring his favorite actor Steve McQueen...
We go out to supper... In Manhasset if I can recall... Head to the Movies. also in Manhasset..
No place to park but right in front of the theater ... It was a NO parking zone!
Dad didn't care ..He parked there ! Front and center of the theater....

We enjoyed the movie.. We come out and the Porsche is surrounded by a crowd of people..

Taking photos posing with the car and so on.. LOL...

WE  all stood for a second and was in shock ... The only thing we could think of was
the people thought it was for publicity .... Heck it wasn't even the same colour ...

Dad was very lucky he didn't even get a ticket ! And yes there  were officers there...

Dad just finally walked up to the car un locked it and we all got in a drove away ...
Laughing all the way home... That we got away with parking in a NO Parking Zone....

As for Kenny Heartly, doesn't sound familiar.

Must not have travelled in the same circle of miscreants.

Dad was at work ... Ken was one of dads dear friends....And lived close..

So if he was still alive and I'm sure he is not.... He would be like 87 yrs old now ..

OK.. first congrats SXSMAN on being here 1 year to the day.....

Ok some what long read......

The last ride of Dad's beloved little silver 356

The year was 1968.....

We were once again heading to the Track at Montague point I do believe ....
Kevin Kelly or was it Wallace was driver of the Green racer...
Couldn't tell you what it was ,Some kind of 356...I think it had 38 or 58 on the side..

All of us got in the little silver 356; 2 brothers mom dad and myself ..
I was on my brothers lap up front.. Mom was behind dad.
My other brother behind us.... It had turned in to a beautiful morning IICR ....
We lived in GlenCove at the time....It was some what of a long ride..

We were at a traffic light sitting at a stop on a 4 lane...Waiting for our turn so we could make a left hand turn across traffic and then across the RR tracks on the other side...

All of a sudden BAM !!!! We had been hit from the rear on the Right hand corner...
The car started spinning doing 360's across the cross traffic of the highway .. Just missing other cars...
According to the eye witnesses... The spinning seemed like an eternity for us in side ..

I remember screaming I was only 6 at the time......
The Drunk driver in a truck had hit us.. The trucks front fender had grazed my brothers head...
The whole right corner of the car was crushed like a tin can...
My mom was flung forward and the back ...The seats back had come down and impacted her spine..
The snap never worked right on that seat it always seemed......

Dad's head hit the windshield... I hit the dashboard with my mouth...My older brother was unscathed, LOL I guess I saved him...That was also the first time I broke my nose.. I broke it 7 more times after that day in my life, 6 of the times  were all done  with horses. The last time was  my own stupid fault...
As we were doing these 360's ..The eye witness said it was like a hand twisting the car back and forth spinning and missing the on coming traffic that wasn't stopping by inches to feet on each car!

The witness thought he was going to see a Porsche get fully totaled out by the on coming train that had NO crossing guard rails to drop down ..The train had a local nickname the Cannon ball {the Police called it that ,due to the fact the Cannon ball  didn't have to slow down in that area } ..

Then BAM the car hits the only tree in the area on the left front corner of the the little 356 ... The witness once again called it a miracle, he said the car was headed for the train and it just turned right for the tree....

Once the police arrived they were all over the place ... I remember one officer talking to another one saying oh my god look at all the blood some one was decapitated !
We need to call the wagon...Well no one was beheaded ...He thought this was so as my moms fall {vintage hair piece}was laying on the back hanging out of the busted rear window and covered with my brothers blood from his head wound {you know how head wounds bleed a lot}..

I still remember Mom yelling NO NO !! we are all here No was decapitated... That's my hair piece.. The Officer mumbled under his breath ; you dang woman and your hair pieces.. LOL ..I'm sure that officer had gotten some ribbing over the years about that one....

They took us all to the hospital where they checked us out , Stitched my brothers head and my dad brow .. Pulled on my nose and X-rayed my moms back {my moms back was messed up for the rest of her life after that} , and then they released us...

Dad called the track and got a hold of Red {IICR} a roundish man with a round reddish face and reddish hair.. To say we are going to be there...And of course he had told what had happened...
We did make it all bloodied and battered ... We made it down to the pits just in time to see Kevin off.. We were a sight {have some old B/W photos some where} .. Funny I remember dad asking all of us in the Hospital lobby should we still go... We were only a few miles away from the track think ...So of course we went....

We got the car back a few weeks later from the impound...It sat along side the garage for a time ...It's hard to believe we made out of it alive...

Than my brother took the engine out of  the 356 and stuck it in a dune blue buggy for a while he had a blast with it ..Then he took it out of the Buggy and stuck it in a chartreuse green VW bug ...IICR....
He drag raced it a few times  and won a few bucks with that bug..I guess it was like a sleeper..Didn't look like much but she could run....

That's how I remember the story from the mind of a 6 year old at the time of the accident.. Still deep in my memories... But like it was yesterday ..
Out of all the times we went to the track.. That is the only one I fully remember. But I don't remember how the little green Porsche did on the track...

Dad's car after that was a redishorange Porsche that was all written in German.

But that's another story ....... For next time...

I hope you enjoyed the story...

Might be the Honda forum, not sure - I haven't got one, so I don't go on there.  He loves the bike, though.  He's talked a bit about doing a heavy-duty rear axle bearing conversion and I think he's rebuilding the forks this winter.

I'll ask him when he gets back from his weekend jaunt to NJ.  I believe that his 'Free Runners" club is opening a new chapter in NJ.
