Or you can get some rare earth magnets from Lee Valley and just put them on the outside of your filter.I also extended the drain plug magnet deeper into the gearbox, then fixed a rare earth magnet into it. Cheers

That looks pretty slick, Willie. Anyone use a MagDog? The oil is slowed down before passing over the super strong magnet allowing it to collect more metallic debris. Plus it has an inspection port that allows you to remove the magnet and look at it. Can't do that with my magnetic drain plug without dumping my oil. Sounds good to me.

Jed's right. It won't kill your car in 3k miles. But for $7 bucks you can have the best. No?

No. You will only loose the oil in the filter, in fact you can re use that oil just put it in the new filter before you screw it on which is always wise to do anyway as the engine won't have to wait for it to fill up on initial start after the oil change. Moisten the seal on the filter with some oil it helps it seal.

I agree w/ Spitz. IMO a much better choice is the K&M no. HP1002. The HP1002 is a longer version of the Mini's standard can. If clearance is for some reason a problem, ask for the standard size. Different part no.—don't know offhand what it is. Why do I like this filter...?

1) The K&M is the top rated filter in almost every review I've seen.  (2) The HP1002 is readily available at AutoZone, NAPA, Advance etc.  (3) The 1" nut on the bottom makes it EZ on - EZ off.  (4) We"re fortunate with our Minis to have room to accommodate an oversized version of an already top rated filter; might as well take advantage of this good fortinue.

I'd go and get a proper filter and toss that one in the garbage....no need to dump the oil

It's the long one the more popular short one is Fram PH 3614. It will work if you want to go with Fram but there are better filters out there.

I found a post that had a bunch of oil filters list but it didn't have that Fram one on there.

Yes you can. The number i seem to remember is a Fram PH3600 (not my choice) but you can use it to interchange and get whichever filter you prefer. There is a thread on here with all the filters listed.

As far as oil goes use conventional 20 w 50 you will need 5.5 quarts. Again there is a couple of threads on the "best" oils to use as a Mini's oil lubricates the gearbox and differential as well as the engine.

Would I be able to go to autozone and get a oil filter for my 1992 1275cc? And if so what do I ask them. This is the first time I will be changing my oil
