Will not grind if I shift smoooothly, no speed shifting in 1st and 2nd.
That is why I said when I can't stand it any longer I will dig in to it.
I think what Steve was trying to say is that it's gonna get worse instead of better. And, you will probably be lucky enough to mess up a part that's no longer available new.....
It's always better for you to chose when the job is going to get done instead of the car deciding...

Just a thought, synchros protect the dog teeth on the side of the gears. These teeth have nice sharp points when the synchros don't help match gear speed it knocks the tips off those dog teeth. Then you replace a NLA gear. Steve (CTR)

Try putting it in 2nd then shift into first. This proceedure is manditory for a 3-synchro.

Yea it was a 95 SPI donor.
Oh well I will drive until I can't stand it any longer and I will tear it down and take a look.

Got the donor engine and trans in and have the brakes, carb and ignition sorted out but now a new issue :-(
I have to gently shift into 1st and when shifting into 2nd. If I shift too quick it will grind the gears so my guess a syncro problem? Shifting to 3rd and then to 4th no problem.
This is my first 4 sync trans on a mini so I don't know if there is an adjustment or the syncros are shot.
Thanks in advance
As long as you have plenty of pedal clearance from the floor when releasing the clutch yes more than likely the synchros are bad, very unusual for first to be bad though. Pretty common problem on late 80's and 90's drivetrains.
