Hugh really is a large chap, but he seems to use exactly the method I do - on your back, legs out of the door, seat removed.
Needle nose pliers help enormously, two pairs if you have them.
I looked at the thread because of the offensive yet non-descriptive title...
We all say naughty words, but scroll back as many pages as you like and you won't find anyone else typing what you have in the title and your posts...
Just sayin'.

I'm with Alez on this one. Never had a problem with removing them ever. I do recall back a long time ago, Spring Thing I. Mike Priest had Minisota there and they needed to replace one of the master cylinders. Several folks tried and were denied. Out of the crowd I told everyone to make room for the fattest man on the lot. I did the falsbury flop (as Alex described) and had it out in just a matter of minutes. Did not remove the seat and did not use auxilary lights. So, if this fat man (300+ lbs) can do that job in a cut down Mini (Minisota), anyone should be able to. Oh yeah, one other one that deserves a laugh. A few years ago when Alan Rigby was building Kabluey, I stopped by to see his progress. He said he had been having fits getting the pins out of the MC and wanted me to give it a try. Said he had already done one (I can't remember which) but it took him forever to disassemble and reassemble. Anyway, in just a matter of seconds I had it out and in his hand. "AAAAGGGGGGHHHH! That's the one I JUST REPLACED!!!!" Oops, looking at it upside down I guess I did pull the wrong one. Not to worry, I put it back and took the other one out. Easy peasy!

i beg to differ alex.like i said, no interior, contorting my back with my legs hanging
out the door.if you're anywhere over 3 ft tall, it's a mother f'er. i stand firm...like there's a flat surface to lie
on. not a big secret to take the seat out. i'd call it common sense.anyway, i'd rather eat black pudding then do that again.

They're not that bad to do - I've never found one yet that didn't yield.
The massive secret if to get the front seat out and lie on your back with your legs hanging out of the door. You may be upside down, but you can actually see what you're doing then.

Just to make all you "door slammers" envious, on the Moke the job is an absolute doodle. Just kneel down next to the car and everything falls to hand. (no pesky door in the way)
"doodle"?

i'll get a good light for sure. i don't think lighting was a problem for the most part.
the pins are behind everything, getting the spring off made it better, but that was a ball
breaker too.

Get one of the head mount lights. Use mine a lot more than I expected when working on the car. Try not to cheap out, go ahead and get a good bright LED one. This is the one I have and been very pleased with it.

Finkster -- I had the same reaction as you when I did that job. It was well worth it though because the clevis pins were very worn and were in desperate need of replacement.
As for replacements - I tried D clips and eventually went with safety wire. The D-clips eventually worked themseves off.

what made it so hard is i couldn't even see the clevis pins.on my back
tryin to put a light there made it miserable. i don't know what a "d" pin
is but i'll find out. i thought the whole assembly came out too. i was wrong.lol
hopefully when i wake up tomorrow i can walk.

When you put them back, do not use cotter pins in the clevis pins. Use some "D" pins instead and it will be easier to put back together and easier the next time it has to come apart.

Did you remove the front seats? Still awkward but gives you a bit of room.
And remember, "Assembly is the reverse of disassembly." Except you cuss in different places.... [rolleyes]

I've fought some of that on smaller repairs. But, doesn't the whole assembly unbolt?

been tearin down my car as i've mentioned before.today i spent part of the day taking out the
brake and clutch cylinders. taking out the pedals was the worst thing i've done in a while.trying
to take out those cotter pins without being able to see them and punching out those pins was , well,
my wife said i was screaming like a girl. i was. that was a f'n nightmare. there was an easier way
to do it , right?...i need a good laugh.
