Never seen that Fumoto drain. Kinda cool.

I usually order a few new copper washers when ever I order other parts. Never want to not have one on hand.

The valve is a great idea! saves wear and tear on the plug threads and the overzelous tightening to stop a leak because a) you forgot to buy a new washer or b) your too cheap to buy a new washer!!  One thing i'de do though is saftey wire that valve handle closed just to prevent an oil spill caused by outside forces................

I always made a mess with my sumpguard so I installed a Fumoto drain valve in a modified sump plug. Put a hose to a container and flip the valve. No washer to mess with.

I also use the bonded metal/rubber seal that Zippy uses.  Look for:  Dorman/Motormite 65629

It will be a tight fit that has to be threaded onto the drain plug but they are great.  Little torque required to get a seal and no drips.

As an alternative, I use one of these ->

It's a steel washer with a rubber center. Available at almost any parts store. I use a 14mm (I think) and it screws right over the threads on the drain plug bolt.

It is possible to change out this washer with minimal oil loss. You just have to be quick. Ask me how I know. haha. Had the same issue and wanted to try out a washer to see if it would fix it and it sure did.

you could try turning it over instead of replacing it. Of course, draining the oil, and draining it again is a PITA.

I had many Austin America, (1275 engines) and minis, and never bought a new copper washer for the drain plug.

Changed my oil in my 92 mini 1275cc.  Have a oil leak at my oil plug now..... I did not change the cooper washer so I think this is the problem. is this the correct washer?    //www.minimania.com/part/AED172/Oil-Drain-Plug-Copper-Washer
