On some very long trips with 998 running thorough a 3.44/1 FD and a 1380 through a 2.95/1 FD & pulling a trailer, same size wheels/tyres, we got 39-41+ mpg (Imperial gallons)...over 7,500 - 8,500 miles.

The Aussie Van 1098 running through a 3.65/1 FD on 12" wheels/tires and loaded gets about 30 mpg or a bit more...over 35,000 miles.

I once got 58mpg out of my Spi car, mostly highway. But I was trying really hard like shutting it off at stoplights and coasting in neutral every chance I got. I've since gotten a life and realized the car gets about 38mpg in town no matter how I drive it. Haha! So, I just drive it and have fun. The F-150 in my profile pic gets 8.5-12.6mpg, now with that you want to screw around and do whatever it takes to increase your mpg's.

Reminds me of the movie 'Pete 'n Tilley' where the neighbour keeps obsessive track of his mileage. Meanwhile Pete is adding fuel to the guy's car at night. Later, Pete changes tactic and starts siphoning out fuel and the neighbour goes berzerk wondering what's happening to his mleage.

(I'd keep an eye on my neighbour.)

Not much simpler than dividing miles driven by gallons used. Don't need GasCubby for that. How does this GasCubby work anyway?

That's exactly how I do it on every fill of every vehicle Minerva....I'm anal that way.  I doubt the want of knowing MPG will ever go away, in place of l/100

I do it the old fashioned way....odometer at the start and finish of drive, # of litres required to top up again. Convert KMs to miles, convert litres to gallons...divide miles by gallons=mpg. I'm metrically challenged and not about to change..l/100kms is the easy way out for cowards afraid of a bit of work. BTW we get about 52mpg at steady slower secondary Hwy driving...80kmh=50 mph. Have 95 SPI "1.3".

Good point, we were using an app called GasCubby.  But, yeah....that doesn't add up.  I'm going to do a reset on the app next fill.

I did around 365 miles on Thursday in Betty, pretty much all of it motorway with stretches of A-road, no twisties.  I did just under 40mpg (proper sized ones, not piddlu little colonial gallons).

The total over the last week is pushing a thousand, every one of which is logged in my fuel book, and apart from the odd one in the 40 mpg range over the last few years, most are high 30s.

Rover Mini's low fuel early warning system is built in, the fuel gauge says empty when you really have 2.5 gallons left :-)

Ha, don't worry we don't trust ours anyway.  The guauge is more of a rough guess about fuel levels anyway.

Fair point, if the light is bad it is hard to tell what is "full" on the tank.

On a related note, we did learn that our gas gauge "warning" light does work!  It lit up red when it got really low (before the 5.5 gallon fillup).  If my research is correct the Innocenti Minis came with a 7.5 gallon tank.

That's impressive.....that equals about 53mpg

The best I can get out of mine right now is about 38mpg ( ~34us )

After all your re builds over the past months - just the fact that you are out driving it- and sounds like enjoying it is praise enough! Who cares about MPG's

HA the stage 1 kit- will sound better and perform better= so fewer MPG's from the Right foot syndrome.

Congrats Mini On!

That's great Bill! I think you were probably bucking the wind (resistance) on the ride back home for your 33mpg reading.                    Mini Estate

Drove up to just south of Albany today.  Avoided most highways and enjoyed some very very nice local roads through western NJ and "upstate" NY.  By the time we re-fueled around the 115 mile mark we only took about 3.5 gallons, but clocked in at 48Mpg!  On the way home it was much hotter out and we had the windows wide open.  We filled up around the 110 mile mark and took on about 5.5 gallons for 33'ish mpg.  I'm thinking it was due to the hotter ambient temps when we left, hotter running temps and the windows being 100% open.

The Inno just got dropped off at the shop to have the stage 1 kit installed, so that should improve things a bit, but either way, the little Inno did very well on her first "long" road trip.  Next big trip is to New Hampshire for Minis on Top!
