Terry,

I've got a letter from MINI USA on the oxygen sensors as well. I never had any trouble with mine.              Mini Estate

Talk to the Service Manager and make a big stink. It doesn't matter if you replaced the first one before the notice came out. I will see if I can take a decent photo of the warranty info and post it OK.                  Mini Estate

Aloha Terry,

I just looked up the warranty coverage extension from MINI. The power-assist steering pump and associated cooling fan is covered for 13 years/150,000 miles, whichever occurs first, starting from the date of first retail sale. If there was failure on the replacement pump and fan, they should cover it as well. Did you replace it yourself the second time around? Did you perform the work and purchase the parts before you hit 150K? I would submit the dated receipts for at least the parts, and have MINI reimburse you. You did get reimbursed for the original failed pump and fan parts and labor from MINI? I have a copy of the May 2013 letter from MINI that was sent out if you need it. Let me know. That's close to $1,000.00! I got all my money back.            Mini Estate

bottomline, love and take care of your mini, and it will give you lots of happy miles and smiles.

ps: just wait, someone will post links about toyota recalls etc in a bit. they just want to contradict my opinion.... recalls don't count mind you!!!!

A "recall" is NOT part of quality control. Quality control is ensuring one's product is safe and will perform in accordance with its intended use and servicable life BEFORE it goes to market. Almost every recall is a failue of quality control in one form or another. Recalls result from a plethora of owner complaints, growing records of failure and/or injury, litigation and/or regulatory order. Manufacturers consider any recall a very "bad thing" because it reflects negatively on their reputation and it costs them money. They do not do them unless forced to by regulatory bodies or 'damage conrol' of their reputation. A smart manufacturer may perform a recall quickly to minimize the damage to their reputation. Most would rather fight to avoid a recall.

Aloha Terry,

Since it was a known defect with parts and labor covered by MINI, I'm curious if they wouldn't cover it a second time?      Mini Estate

The air conditioner thing may be setting that can be adjusted.  I complained to t he dealer about it at the same time that I complained about the noisy air con diction ing system (Both fixed under warranty).  They set the ac down on low to boost fuel economy.

Sorry to hear about your clutch problems. What ever became of the air conditioner? In an earlier post you mentioned it wasn't blowing very cold???

Yes, forgot to mention I definately get more smiles per gallon with my RHD 87 Austin Mini than both modern MINI COOPERs combined.

They are different animals.  I would not attempt a 3300kms trip in the 87 . too mnay things to go wrong with old parts and nobody in Atlantic Canada to repair them (other than myself).

Still, I do like the modern MINI as a DD and I won't be chaning any time soon.

weekend smiles=Austin Mini

DD miles=BMW MINI COOPER

15-40 Diesel oil in an R53?  Never heard of that!

Just because it's approved/rated for diesel doesn't make it a Diesel oil. It's a misnomer. I won't hijack this thread, but look at some of the oil threads or email me if you want to know more. I run Shell Rotella T6 full synth in everything I own.

Oh DAN!!   Just pretend you didn't notice!  It could be because the Kennedys are "our" royal family?

Perhaps a "perfect" garage then would be a classic Mini AND a Harley.   That garage floor should never rust!

In the end I ended up buying a Toyota pickup and a 1969 Morris Mini (Ausi Built). Best decision I feel I could have made. I have the Toyota for reliability and the Mini for fun. I might want to add that I have had no major issues with the mini except for replacing the fuel pump, alternator and some other minor electrical issues. Unless a person has deep pockets for repairs I wouldn't go near a european car.

Exactly! i dunno why we are all in denial that european/British cars are somewhat less reliable, we drive and love them despite a leaky engine, temperemental carburetor AND distributor system etc...British cars are famous no matter what, when we say british/european cars,  a lot of good and famous things are attached to it, like the Beatles, Princess Diana, Patrick Kennedy,(a British actor) Union Jack etc!! so eventhough we see tremendous amount of oil leaks on the floor of our garages, it's ok with us, the more oil the better., the more we are one with the beatles..lol

i love British cars no matter what, i love them to death, i wish i have a british accent too....sigh!Kiss
