Hi All,
I am looking for a bonnet latch for my 65 Austin Mini. Anyone that has one for sale please let me know.
Mine is missing.
Add a post to the swap or wish list threads. I'm sure there's guys with parts carsthat won't need one.

Unfortunately, I don't hink anyone sells a bonnet latch kit with everything in one bag. Depending on exactly how much is there, or not there, there are lots of little parts involved. This is a good breakdown of what's supposed to be there.

Sometimes you need to take a round file and carefully "sharpen" the edge of the latch. When the edge gets rounded on the pin, the bonnet can pop up. The edge needs to "bite" into the pin.

Is yours missing or just not functioning? They are pretty basic and shouldn't need much to recondition them. One thing I found out the hard way is that the bonnet portion needs to be adjusted properly. My Mini purchase deal included a re-spray. The shop took off he doors and bonnet, and apparently took the bonnet pin thing off, putting it back on and screwed in a bit too much. On my drive home (about 250 miles), the freshly painted bonnet kept popping up, almost stopping my heart each time. After about 6 or 7 times, I wired it down. Once home, it was a simple matter to adjust it properly. The mechanism if cleaned and lubed should be fine, unless damaged by collision.

Install one of these. It keeps nosy people and vandals out of your engine bay.

That looks like the original one that was on my Elf. The hood kept popping open, then would get stuck closed when I wanted to open it. I replaced it with one of the later style Mini ones.

Which parts do you need? Most of the bits are available new from MM.
