I would be sticking any bag in there. Just like the last bloke did. (I already pointed out that the current bag is the wrong one for that car.)

As it's an Australian made bag, if you power wire brush the outside, you should find a part number on there.
These days, any bag that doesn't leak is a good one. It's hard to pick and choose when exact replacements are unobtainium.

In recent times due to scarcity of S bags, some Cooper S cars here in Oz had to get stock Mini Deluxe etc bags fitted instead. They work OK, but you would need a pair as their spring rate is different.
And, it's preferable then to swap the stock S rear bags to front and put the commoners in back. This is the setup in my car for the last 20 years, it sits level, rides and handles well.

[edit] These bags are all 40-50 years old now. I'd take a good hard look at the hoses and their crimps before fitting to car. Replace hoses if in any doubt.

I was able to repair a bag. My leak was in the hose. I find it hard to believe that the bag is damaged inside the metal housing. I'd be happy to repair it if you want me to look at it. I put together a pretty bulletproof system.

Why would a 65 Cooper S have an Australian bag? It must have been swapped previously.

I would try Paul or Alex of Minimal Motoring. There was a gentleman selling off parts in the back of his truck at MME this year. He had a set of four that laid around unsold all weekend. I know Paul was interested in them, he may have eventually ended up with them, or know who got them.

We were not sure what car they were from though, they could have been 65 S.

If you are a member of the mk1-forum there has been a large topic on Identifying Hydro Units.

If you are totally stuck, I have a couple of spares. I don't really want to sell, but I could do a "lend" to get you back on the road.

Email me if this helps. (am on road - so will be slow to reply)

I forwarded your post to a friend in also in Arizona whom I know to have about 8 of the bags from his 2 Cooper S cars.  I see you have contact info... maybe he'll contact you.
