Hey Mike (ve9aa) haven't talked in ages. must meet up with you guys and go for Ice cream again soon.
Big Al _ I have finally painted those mirrors I got from you and will be installing them this winter! woohoo only what 10 year later
Now to the question- I bought a 45d electronic distribitor from this site and installed it on the 998 (while waiting for my 1275 to be rebuilt again)
Anyway. didn't seem to have a lot of power. set timing again to be sure. then played with the fuel mixture to get it so that it would run. did well most of the summer. did 3 auto slaloms and a bit of local driving nothing on the highway.
using a 1.5 Ohm coil. have new wires, plugs, and as of today a 3.5 ohm coil.
the paper work with the electronic distribitor said it must be used with at least a 1.5 coil. did not say a max coil rating.
as of today before installing the new coil I could pull both wires off 3 and 4 and she would still idle. could not remove either 1 or 2 or she would die...yes I put 3 and 4 back on.
plugs on 1 and 2 area nice tan colour and 3 and 4 are sooty not wet.
I did switch the plug wires with the working plugs to make sure it was not the wires. yes the are still in the correct order.
I have not tried to switch the plugs. put in the new coil and she is a bit smoother but still will stumble and die if either 1 or 2 are removed but will continue to idle with 3 or 4 off. when I take 3 or 4 out of the distribitor end then I do see sparks and they seem to be about at bright as one and two.
so..is the electronic module dead?
this all started because it has a miss when under load. in fact so bad I wasn't sure I was getting home sunday night.
Once you replace everything that is attached to something else. It will all be fixed.
