Its called regenerative braking and is employed on most electric / hybris cars nowadays.

Car engines make CO2 and trees absorb CO2. By running your engine you're feeding a tree and helping the environment.

Interesting!  So the compression of an electric motor was useful to gear down for descent!!

It seems that if you could indeed drive the motor from the wheels, you'd have a gravity powered generator!

I did get to talk to him. he has to charge it. I was behind him coming down the mountain and noticed his brake lights never came on. I just figured british car, brake lights probably not working but he said the motor actually slowed him down when he let off.

That's very impressive to find on such a mountain top!  Did you happen to talk to the owner?  Maybe the Super Duty was carrying the generator!  Or was the Morris set up to charge on the way down...

Even though the minor is closer than the super duty, it looks like a pedal car in relation.
