Sounds like the flexi hose between the master cylinder and slave could be at fault. The hoses deteriorate on the inside causing blockages and restrictions exactly as you describe.

Hi all, wondering if you could tell me what went on with my 1973's clutch this morning... Car running fine though the clutch occasionally lately feels vague. I was driving slightly spiritedly and from 3rd to 4th letting the clutch out, it seemed to be slow to engage. Like it had a mind of its own. Got to the red traffic light in 4 lanes of airport traffic and went to push in the clutch and it was rock hard! Panic...Thankfully it was a long light and working the shifter and clutch, it came back and seemed fine on my way home thankfully. Looked and fluid was good and full. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks!
