Thanks Pete
I tried the link and got no result….so most likely long gone.

Out of interest, I ran a few plates that I found on classic MINIs.  It was funny….a few of the "S's" showed up as originally being licensed with 848 or 998.  Not sure if that would have been because of reshell or "Cooperisation"

VCH 483 is not on the UK govt computer, either as an Austin or any other make (if the plate has been transferred).

So its not been use for more than 30 years (which when the comp sysytem started).

Thanks Colin for the plate decode.  Now, is there anyway to find if it's still in use?

My condolences too, Matt. Even though as you say you weren't close for awhile, family ties never seem to break completely. (Your going through old photos at this time sort of proves it.) Whether you were close or not, something in your life has changed forever, leaving a gap. For some, it may be just like a gap left when a tooth gets pulled (ignored but still there) or a huge hole. My Dad died in 1977, but there are times I still would like to have a chat or ask him something.

it would cool to reproduce this plate and put your picture next to the license plate in the man cave or somewhere neat

As I said earlier - the reg number was issued in Derby early 1961.

As an aside A suffix plates did come in in 1963, but not all areas so there are cars as late as '64 with a pre suffix plate.

I'm sorry for your loss... I did not mean to sound glib!  I have tons of old black and white family photos from the Liverpool area.  Even relatives who were THERE can't remember half of them!

VCH 483 is not on the UK govt computer, either as an Austin or any other make (if transferred).

That VCH series was issued in Derbyshire in early 1961.

Not much to go on for placing a location.... curiosity has me,  who is pictured from half a century ago?

I wonder if it's possible to do a license plate search in the UK... or on the web,  the way we can here with many DMVs?  It would be something to find your first car still registered and on the road!

Matt the Austin Mini would be pre 1963 as that is when they went to letters for the last digit on the plates. A 1963 example would be VCH 483 A. VC is the prefix for Coventry just outside Birmingham. There is a website in the UK where you can look up old registration numbers and see if they are still on the road or sorned (off the road).

EDIT: Oops looked up VC instead of CH, the correct place of being first registered would be Nottingham Derbyshire.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

Our families first car.  I think the picture is from around 1961-1964 and the car may be brand new.
The fella with the funky hair passed away today....trying to place a location with the picture.

Possibly Liverpool or Birmingham area

Can someone in the UK place the licence plate? ( knowing if it's still registered would be nice to know also )
