Sorry about the number.  The story was also about why they were trained and it is a total of about 2000.  The goal is to give hard working africans jobs and a chance out of poverty.  Totally sorry about that.

Heard on NPR today that South Africa sent 2000 fire fighters.  Thoughts and prayers for all affected.  Very scary.

If the 'Alberta clipper' is just right we get red suns in the morning right now with the fires.  One morning we got the smoke fog and the smell of burning wood was pretty bad.  The 'clipper' typically bring us the highs from time to time in MN.  Mostly in the winter, spring and fall which for MN is most of the year.  My hearts go out to the people loosing everything.  Insurance can replace stuff but cannot replace memories.  Jeez, why did I come back so soon from FL.

Latest report, 2500 structures destroyed, 85 % of City is O K, 2 fatalities, a car accident when people were fleeing the scene to safety

Apparently the oil fields were untouched so when the Xcell pipeline is finally approved the oil will flow south

The pet rescue gang have been kicked out twice, they are still trying to sneak into town to save pets left behind and locked up in houses

Just a horror story

There is no Mars deployed to McMurray though..... they have plenty of bombers working right now.  About 1500 square miles burned now

Likely to hit 750 sq. miles today.  Rain, bring on the rain, any rain, all rain.

Firefighters from several provinces on hand, some up from Mexico as well, even the Russians are offering assistance.

There is a huge fuel reserve in the world's northern boreal forests...global warming is a huge risk to the future.

Last night on the way home we stopped at a Red Light.  Bitch (and I use the word deliberately) in the new Jeep that pulled up alongside casually flipped her still lit cigarette out the window.

Although not definitive, the Fort McMurray fire is believed to have been caused by such human disregard.

Truly horrific! I'm praying for all  of you in that region of Canada!  Stay safe!! I know the California fire fighters are ready to come help as soon as they are asked. This is even worse than our horrible fires last summer.

Fire area now exceeds 85,000 hectares or 330 square miles.  Rain is said to be needed to put it out.

Meanwhile more than 2 dozen air tankers are doing their best to contain spread & protect structures by water/retardant bombing.

B.C. firefighters are likely to be following a large wildfire north of Ft. St. john in the Peace River region as it burns eastward into Alberta to relieve the Alberta firefighters on that front.

We have fire crews fully engaged in B.C., and have not been able to spare any additional help to Alberta.

This El Nino cycle is a strong one...warmest winter on record, low snow pack now melted off....

And to think in these conditions one or more humans tossed cigarettes, failed to extinguish a campfire or threw away a glass bottle that focused the suns rays to ignite this horror.  Yes, the fire experts believe the conflagration is human caused.
