I don't think I'd sell any of mine for a girfriend, to hell with that idea.  Now if getting 2 girlfriends in return for one of them, I may consider. .625 of a girlfriend must be an amputee......?

Not at all. I've paid 30K plus over for cars. Some for investment and some I'll never sell.

Definitely agree there. I know some pretty wealthy guys that are just as passionate about cars as any of us. Money has nothing to do with being an enthusiast (other than it helps being able to afford some really cool stuff, or just enjoy cool stuff quicker than others). Can't hold that against them...

Why? just puts the cars further out of reach of the driver/enthusiast and once it's ready to be put back on the road how "original" is it going to be? Daft money to pay for an un-restored car with a seized motor.......................

I thought I was rich when I sold a slightly better condition S for $2,500 after paying $700 for it.  I also sold my VW microbus for $700 to buy the Mini.

Is it impossible to imagine that a driver/enthusiast could also have deep pockets?

Besides, some of the worst crimes (read: modifications) committed to these little cars have been committed by "driver/enthusiasts" during the years when these cars weren't worth anything.
It's those people who saved most of them ending up in China as scrap! "When they were not worth anything" and no it's not impossible to imagine that well healed buyers are not enthusiasts I make my living from people like that.

Yup, we are being out-bid by well heeled Brits looking to re-live their youth!  I'm glad my 66 S is so highly modified that I don't have to worry about it!!

The seller's other Mini is this stunning 62.... stopped by last week and picked up a roofrack or two....

I watched that a little also via MkI site.....
but $70K CAD seems awfully steep

The car originally came into California.  It has the little  1 x 1" BMC196? plastic plate underneath the serial number plate.  My 1963 Austin Healey 3000 has the same plate.  As far as I know those plates were only on California imports.

I have been watching the auction and the bidding in the last few hours went crazy and i imagine the seller is happy. I understand the originality factor but dents and a seized engine it seems a lot to me. Going back to its homeland apparently good luck to the buyer. Like they say they are only original once.
