ItalianJobber,
I'm sorry for the way you've been treated on this forum. I'm fairly new to this forum myself and I've probably asked some dumb questions (in your minds). Two years ago I purchased a 1987 Austin Mini and this forum has been a great resource. But... all of you who've been flaming ItalianJobber should be ashamed of yourselves! I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for saying that.
Plus I completely disagree that he's watering down the market. The demand only seems to be going up and so do the prices. And if that's what you're worried about, then you probably own the wrong car!
James

It is the same light and function as the later Mini and Jap spec cars with the binnacle on top of the steering column.

Ah. Thanks for that Alex. I had actually thought it was an early 70,s CA spec one because of the mph and kph. I suppose uk ones had that also. I've only ever had CA spec centre binnacles

9 times out of 10 they are your left and right indicator warning, also hazard light warning.
And Jobbie, take a look at Chapter 10 in the Haynes like I very helpfully suggested earlier.

I have more integrity that to pull bullS*** vin swapping, etc. I can only advise people on the process of registering. I cant hold them up and force them to title in their state. I have too much integrity and pride to play games with customers.

Again generalizing when you have never met me. Because i dont happen to know how one little light works on a I got on sunday that means I dont know ANYTHING about these cars. I am sorry you feel that way but it isnt going to change anything. I am a career machanic and i have been involved in importing vehicles since probably before most of you guys. I have imported Vespas, Cinquecentos etc for over a decade. I asked about the light to see if anyone had constructive help before i went and tore the dash apart to chase wiring. But of course that wasnt the case and werewolf and alex felt they had to put in there two cents even though with something not pertaining to this post. Also I remember dealing with JCG but that was a while back. Perhaps he felt compelled to defend one of the honest not scheming people on here. I dont know. I cant speak for him. All i know is the usual suspects harp on me for every post which if that makes them feel better somehow or fills their boring day by all means keep going. That being said I am going to keep importing cars and they will sell. There are a handfull of good people on here(I.E. Richard Widman, Michael Lewis, etc) But I suppose there always will be a few bad apples in the bunch

Here it is in a nutshell: You do not know much about minis, but you import them. Every car imported brings down the value of the cars already here. Since you don't have the insight to support customers later on when their cars have issues you perpetuate the notion that these are unreliable cars that are expensive to maintain and hard to find parts for; something that is not true. Meanwhile, regular folks who go to sell a mini that is fully sorted and known to be reliable have to contend with buyers that compare such known cars with cars fresh off of the boat.
Of course; and I am not saying that you are swapping VINs or advising people to register cars in states other than where they live, but that is another blight on the mini community that can have consequences for all of us. Each new dealer wannabe carries a suite of threats to the regular mini community.
Lastly, the thread about the fellow who pleasured himself buying a car from you was shameless promotion and brought nothing of value to the forum. Everyone can see through that. Compare that to P Mustang who immersed himself in minis before he ever bought or sold a car.
The name calling is particularly weak.

Ok so does that include flaming other members regarding stuff that has nothing to do with you? You have that down to a science. I asked a simple question because, the rover minis have the three gauge pod in it and i havent owned one with the center binnacle. But your charming welcoming self jumped down my throat without obviously reading my entire question. Again you are just LOOKING for a reason to attack me. Glad to see MINIMANIA is so welcoming.

Mur has forgotten more about Minis than you'll ever know - the best way of getting help round here is to be polite and fit in with the general harmonious attitude, not be uber-aggressive and rude.

It is awesome that All of you have such chips on your shoulder that you decide to bash me even though I have never done any business with the pricks that are chiming in. Perhaps if you had a bad experience sure go ahead and talk as long as it is valid. However you have never dealt with me personally. It is cool. I get it. You are jealous.....It isnt a good look on you though. Quit being jealous and do you buddy. No reason to be mad.

You will get lots of different response to your question. A lot of it depends on the year of your car and whether previous owners have customized it.
Not all cars used the amber lights. Some used one, a rare few may have used both. One is sometimes used for a low oil pressure light. The other may have been used on the few early cars that had a plugged filter warning light. Some people have re-purposed those amber lamps to operate as left and right turn signal indicators. Others will not use those amber lamps at all.
