Its really not a question of being that bad the one i dyed was not either. Just be gentle and careful with the cleaning as yours is already removed from the car it could turn into a mess being 44 years old. I have used the foaming upholstery cleaner sold in parts stores on board backed headliners with good results and a few damp and dry towels and a sunny day. Glue stains do not come out.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

Eh, mine is not even that bad.  I might try 409 or similar tomorrow.  But check out the stamps on the underside.  October and November 1972 build dates on the parts.  So cool.  Not bad for 44 years old.

You may not need it but I echo the usefulness of Vinyl spray paints...even masked off the interior of a 1980 sedan and sprayed the headliner & visors.  Most important...get the headliner clean & never use the spray in sunlight, always in shade.

Have even done full vinyl interiors - brown to black - and the vinyl dye is very effecting and exceptionally long lasting.

A friend had some over spray and glue stains on hi headliner after a re paint. The trouble with trying to clean a headliner is a little too much pressure and it stretches and gets baggy especially if you are trying to remove glue and paints stains. I found headliner spray at the paint store in cans and it matched perfectly covered all the stains and even refreshed up the sun visors to match.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

Warm soapy water (sunlight dish liquid works well) and a soft brush, let it dry and if there are any stains use "Fantastic" spray cleaner, it works, well, fantastic, on vinyl...

Never said they did it without asking...

Also, he was painting the interior so, it made sense to pull the headliner.  I was there and even helped remove it. It came out very easily, two screws and it popped right out in two large pieces. Honestly its not that dirty, just want to brighten it up a bit.

Off the shelf grey from advance has done well for me - DOor panels and all! for other projects.
The color is pretty good on mine and doesn't have any staining.  I am gonna try some soap and water and then move on from there.

Cool thing is that the underside is stamped "Innocenti" with build dates of October and November 1972.

From what I've read here, the glue stains won't come out. Other than that,  all I can suggest is to use the "delicate cycle"!

Body shop took the headliner out to paint my interior and said i should take it home to clean it up.  Its in fairly good shape, but it could use a scrub.  Anything special besides soap and water?  OxiClean? Water/Vinegar?
