As far as I can tell it's always been the way in ca but was not enforced. About two years ago dmv decided to enforce the law to the letter. So you cannot smog a car unless it was originally certified for ca smog. The mini was never certified for smog in the USA so has no smog label

Thanks guys for the offers but im really looking for a driver.

When did this 68 rule come about? I lived there my entire life (30+ years) and have bought out of state vehicles almost religiously. Ive owned about 12 vehicles in the past 10 years and never had a problem registering a pre-75 vehicle. Ive been gone for only 2 1/2 years and you're telling me its all changed?

Cupcake, I don't really have any history of the car, but I found it here in little old Victoria. As a stark contrast, the 68 I have is the opposite condition wise, I would say the floorpan is made out of cornflakes... Crunchy!

Swindrum, where in Canada did you find an early mini in such good shape? Its gotta have an interesting barn-find story.

The 62 is very clean and has very little rust. There is a silver dollar sized hole on each A-panel. There is some rust in the roof gutter, presumably from leaves or pine needles sitting in the gutter, but it is surface rust.

The spare tire well has surface rust as well.

I am planning on patching the a panels and having my painter colour/sheen match the paint, leaving the rest of the patina intact

I second what minimans said. Do yourself a favor and research Classic Mini's and the California DMV. This site has loads of threads on the subject (use the search feature above right and set it to forum). Best to look for a much earlier Mini than a 75 if you want to put California plates on it.

I have a 62 MkI 850... It is a roller with original (now tatty) almond green paint. The original engine is out of the car but complete.

$4500us takes it home

Or, I have a VERY rusty 68 MkII, rolling shell, $1500us

In that case I have a 73 but fear that won't help you either. Also it is totally stripped down to begin. Steve (CTR)

I think you will find it needs to be Pre. 68 to California at this time. For new Ca. registration or change of ownership a Smog check is required back to 69 cars.

Why that date 1975, If I own it and it runs and drives it's not much of a project. I have a 77 gets nearly 50 mpg every tank. Fly in drive home. Late fall best time of year can catch the Classics only event. Yes it needs some work, interior could use some help. Recent new brake master key lock assembly with keys and battery. Steve (CTR)

As the title states. Looking for a pre-75, something in running and driving condition can do all the rest. Email at [email protected]

Thanks
