Silly but innocent question: Did sir Alec issigonis design the Hornet too? i ask this because i have not seen any youtube video showing Issigonis working on or even talking about the Hornet.... just curious here. i guess, saggy can answer my question.

From the link provided by Cheleker:

"

The Prize Car Register

Of the 57 Prize Cars that Crayford produced in 1965-66 an amazing 41 cars are known to the club.

All the Wolseley Hornets were registered LLH - - - D, and were available in two colours, either Toga White or Birch Grey. At one time it was thought that the registration numbers ran consecutively and that they ranged from LLH 801D up to LLH 857D, however the club register shows the existence of LLH 862D, which currently resides in Texas, USA."

We don't have any way of knowing what you thought you read. They are often referred to by the last three numbers of the number plates, as Heinz had to buy the cars and plate them before they could end up at the tennis court next to the garden shed or whatever shack the Crayford guys actually worked out of.

They are rare. And cool. Marcel's is a very nice car to drive.

How many of these were made?  I thought I read an article years ago that claimed these were made for the Heinz 57 promotion and they only made 57 but it sounds like at least 800 or 900 were made reading above???  Anyway, they are the coolest of all the Mini variants in my opinion.

823 is known to The Crayford Convertible Car Club, but they need to update their information. Who's the current owner?See: //crayfordconvertibleclub.com/heinz-57-prize-cars/the-prize-car-register.html

M
arcel's car is 815. I bought it about 1977 and it started my digging for the Heinz cars. Years ago I sold it to Marcel and he was the right person to get it. He's done a wonderful job of restoration.

The car I still own is 861.

If you want to know more about these cars, besides TCCCC's web site, MiniWorld magazine did a very good job with the article in the July 2016 magazine, "50 Years of Heinz Hornets".

That's pretty cool Mike, thanks for the post.

Saw one for sale years ago, was complete but rough. Price was right.

Concours d'LeMons had a (unrestored?) Heinz Hornet take a class-win trophy. Posting here because I'm not sure how many others know of this one's existence.

Didn't Marcel recently finish his restoration of one?
